Nof Ginosar – Israel

Nof Ginosar, a kibbutz, is home to one of the more interesting archeological finds of the past few decades. Back in 1986, Israel was suffering through one of the worst droughts seen in recent history. As a result, the level of the Lake was extremely low. Two brothers (Moshe and Yuval Lufan) discovered in the muddy shores a very ancient wooden boat.  It turned out that the boat dated back to the time of the 1st Century – back to the time of Jesus.  As a result, the boat is now affectionately known as the ‘Jesus Boat’. During the past decade, the Israeli Antiquities Authority and American researchers have undertaken the monumental task of preserving the craft. Once an artifact is exposed to oxygen, it can decay rapidly.
