1.  There are literally dozens of verses in the Bible that warn against drunkenness

  • Numerous times the Scripture commands the faithful to not got drunk

2.  As is generally the case with Holy Writ, there are real practical reasons for God’s prohibitions

  • The side effects of alcoholism and drunkenness are problematic indeed
  • Putting aside all of the terrible things that can happen when one is drunk (like drunk driving, loss of inhibitions, loss of judgment), the physical impact on the body is alarming

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Tremors and shaking
  • Sexual impotence or loss of sex drive
  • Excessive sweating
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia and fatigue
  • Possible blindness
  • Malnutrition
  • Long-term brain damage
  • Liver and gastrointestinal problems
  • Higher risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease
